OUR 1% DONATION FIGHTS CLIMATE CHANGE

Life is about give and take, and to keep this balance, we have decided to get involved and to give 1% of our turnover to non-profit foundations involved in social and planet-friendly initiatives. Since 2019 we have been a proud member of 1% For The Planet.

Membership of 1% For The Planet was a no-brainer for us. Via our membership of the program, 1% of our total revenue (not profit, revenue) goes straight back into making the world better. We go about that in three ways:

  • Approved promotional support. We leverage our marketing know-how to tell earth-first stories.
    • We allow Nidecker staff & athletes paid time off to volunteer for vetted environmental projects. Their use their skills and experience to benefit the world. We pay, they do good.
    • Direct support of local ecological associations - we feel the biggest difference is made when supporting organizations with clear goals.

We are partnered with Summit Foundation, who are based near our headquarters in the Swiss Alps, and whose goal is to reduce the environmental impact of human activity in high traffic locations by proposing concrete solutions and raising awareness methods.

  • Summit Foundation is a Swiss environmental NGO, created in 2001. Its goal is to reduce the environmental impact of human activity, especially in the mountains, by proposing concrete solutions and awareness-raising methods, both to public bodies and to companies.
    • In 2020 their Clean-Up Tour collected more than 2,700 kilos of waste from Swiss resorts, bringing together more than 650 participants, on 22 stages.
    • Since its creation in 2001, the Foundation has produced and distributed poster campaigns to build awareness among the general public of the environmental impact of leisure activities, targeting especially the problem of littering. The latest one takes the form of comic bubbles, visible in over 50 ski resorts in Switzerland with the potential of impacting more than half the skiers in the country representing more than 10 million viewers each winter season.

Making boards from boards is a concept so simple it takes a genius to come up with it. We are proud to support NoK Boards in their efforts to upcycle our industry's waste into useable products.

  • The snowboard industry inevitably creates waste during development and production, so we are happy to donate unused snowboards to NoK Boards, a Grenoble-based initiative that upcycles them into rideable skateboard longboards and cruisers, as well as key fobs, coasters, mirror and other everyday objects.
    • Not only does this give a new lease of life to old equipment, but it stops it ending up in landfill, or worse.

Nidecker & Zom Connection

We support Zom Connection's, incredible work in Northern Pakistan through our 1% For The Planet membership. This is done via significant direct financial donations, and in a smaller way by giving a second life to our used or unsellable snowboard gear.

Zom's work has allowed for the creation of a nascent winter sports culture in the Northern Pakistan valleys, and the cultural, educational and economic benefits have already started to be seen. Thanks to all at Zom for the great work making the world a better place.

We think this is a lot, but we can do far more for the planet together than we ever could alone. So next time you’re picking out gear, whether it's from Nidecker or another brand, be sure to look closely for the 1% For The Planet logo.
